Our Policy Leadership initiatives aim to inform, influence, and enhance policy settings to advance an inclusive and equitable society. We engage extensively with government bodies, stakeholders, and relevant organisations to advocate for inclusive policies and monitor their implementation. This demonstrates our commitment to addressing intersectional barriers and promoting fair and equitable policies. Below, you can find a summary of some of our consultations. To share your comments on our consultations, please email us at policy.advocacy@multiculturalprofessionalnetwork.com.au
The MPN was recently invited by the Senate to submit a response to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee’s inquiry into the Migration Amendment (Strengthening Sponsorship and Nomination Processes) Bill 2024. We welcomed the opportunity to contribute to shaping the migration framework and remain dedicated to advocating for improvements that enhance the inclusivity and fairness of the migration process overall
In collaboration with SECNA and NSW Treasury, The MPN contributed to key strategic discussions on defining social enterprises for government social procurement. NSW Treasury gave highly positive feedback and valued the opportunity to engage directly with sector leaders. Our input helped inform clear definitions, certification pathways, and measurable procurement targets, with a strong focus on equity and meaningful inclusion in future procurement frameworks
Engagement with government on the digital transformation of workplaces. We recommended developing guidelines to ensure AI and automated decision-making systems promote fairness and equity. We also advocated for training programmes to help employees adapt to an automated workplace, and for research into the long-term impacts of AI and automation on job quality and workforce dynamics, ensuring that policies are data-driven and effective
In our consultations, we collaboratively developed a detailed guideline on race discrimination in the workplace to assist employers. This important initiative aimed to provide comprehensive guidance on effectively identifying, addressing, and preventing instances of race discrimination within organisations. Through ongoing engagement with stakeholders, we worked towards creating practical and actionable recommendations that promote meaningful diversity, inclusion, and equity in the workplace
In response to the Australian Government’s Migration System for Australia’s Future discussion paper, The MPN submitted key recommendations to ensure the migration system is fair, competitive, and aligned with Australia’s long-term economic and social objectives. Our submission highlighted the disconnect between identified skill shortages and actual employment outcomes, the need to expand the shortage occupation list, visa process reform, improved data transparency, and global benchmarking to better attract skilled talent
Engagement with government to emphasise the critical importance of matching jobseekers with positions that align closely with their skills, qualifications, and career goals. Our strong emphasis on this alignment underscores the significance of ensuring that every individual's employment journey is carefully tailored to their unique abilities, aspirations, and long-term professional goals. Through ongoing engagement, we actively advocated for policies and initiatives aimed at optimising job matching processes
